LED Wall Singapore Guide

LED Wall Guide: Pixel Pitch, Size, Technology and Viewing Distance

Use this practical guide to understand the decisions behind a corporate LED wall: pixel pitch, display size, COB vs SMD, brightness, resolution, service access, processing, integration and lifecycle support.

01

What is an LED wall?

A direct-view LED wall is built from LED modules or cabinets that join together to form a large seamless image. Unlike an LCD video wall, there are no panel bezels crossing the picture.

02

Pixel pitch and viewing distance

Pixel pitch is the distance between adjacent LED pixels, measured in millimetres. A smaller pitch generally supports closer viewing and greater pixel density, but the best choice depends on room geometry and content.

03

COB vs SMD LED

COB and SMD use different packaging approaches. COB can offer a protected, robust fine-pitch surface; SMD is a mature and widely available technology with many cabinet and pitch options.

How to choose pixel pitch

Start with the nearest normal viewing position. Close-viewed boardrooms and command centres often justify finer pitches, while larger auditoriums can use a wider pitch because viewers sit farther away. Content matters too: spreadsheets, dashboards and small text benefit from higher pixel density.

P0.9–P1.2

Very fine pitch for close viewing and high pixel density.

P1.5

Common fine-pitch range for premium corporate applications.

P1.8

Useful balance of viewing quality and budget in many rooms.

P2.5+

Often suitable where viewers are farther from the display.

Size, resolution and aspect ratio

An LED wall is assembled from modules, so physical size and resolution are related to cabinet dimensions and pixel pitch. For presentation and video-conferencing rooms, a 16:9 canvas can simplify use with standard content. Wider canvases may be appropriate for dashboards, command centres and architectural installations.

Brightness and room lighting

More brightness is not automatically better. Indoor LED displays should remain clear under ambient light while staying comfortable at normal viewing distances. Reception areas with daylight may need more output than a controlled-light boardroom.

Refresh rate, colour and camera use

For environments where the LED wall may appear on camera, refresh rate, scanning behaviour and processor configuration can affect captured images. Colour calibration and processing are also important when brand colours, video and detailed presentations must appear consistent.

Front vs rear maintenance

Front-service designs allow modules and components to be accessed from the room side, which is useful when the display is mounted against a wall. Rear-service systems need sufficient access space behind the LED wall. Maintenance planning should be part of the initial design.

LED wall vs LCD video wall

Direct-view LED offers a seamless canvas and flexible sizing. LCD video walls can still be appropriate where ultra-close viewing, familiar panel formats or a lower initial investment are priorities. VisionCast supports both approaches and can recommend the better fit for the use case.

What affects LED wall cost in Singapore?

Budget depends on physical size, pixel pitch, LED technology, brightness, processing, mounting structure, installation conditions, redundancy, AV integration and support requirements. A site survey and content review normally produces a more useful recommendation than comparing screen price alone.
